Noosa Lakeside Family Camping Trip
Recently we have changed our camping set up. With the aim to move a little bit quicker, and for the tent not to take an hour or more to set up and pack down.
Eager to give our new setup a few test runs before we venture further afield, and with weather not being ideal, we opted for an adventure close to home.
With the urge to get out on the water with our stand-up paddle boards, we chose Boreen Point as our overnight destination.
Boreen Point Campground is nestled on the shore of Lake Cootharaba, a short 30 minute drive from Noosa Heads. The grounds boast of beautiful modern and well maintained facilities (though there were no parent room or parent friendly areas in the shower and toilets!!!) as well as designated sites for all.
We arrived in the afternoon, set up our site, and then headed off for a walk along the shore of the beautiful lake with a stop by a fun playground for our little one to enjoy. As the weather has been a little bit wet, we were enjoying a little bit of a sunnier afternoon out and about.
Then it was time to make dinner!
We have been making a few adjustments to our camping set up, including some changes to our camp kitchen. With the addition of draws in the back of the car, we have added a draw table, freeing up space on our dining table that would have otherwise been used for preparing and cooking meals. And despite this being such a small and inexpensive change, it has made such a big impact on space and smoothness of having two areas for two different things. No more cleaning the table of chopping boards and gas stoves!! Sometimes these changes work in theory, and it is always a good idea to put it to a practical test to see how things work.
Rain overnight!
Once dinner was all done, and the dishes all washed and put away neatly. It was time for showers before climbing up the ladder to bed. This is when the rain started to settle in for the night. Our first night in our rooftop tent with rain!! This was also something that we wanted to experience while we were close to home if it was a total failure.
Fortunately, there were no midnight dashes home. The rooftop tent held up beautifully and kept us dry and out of the elements all night long, with the rain pitter pattering soothingly on the canvas. We woke to wet ground, and trees tipping water droplets from their leaves.
The next day.
Following a wonderful cup of coffee and some breakfast, we headed to the lake for a morning of stand up paddle boarding! It was so wonderful and relaxing paddling around on the lake, the conditions were perfect and the wind was yet to pick up.
Packing up a wet tent.
Packing up a wet tent is something that we always try to avoid. Though there are times were it is simply unavoidable. And with a looming check out time, and a camp site that had trees above it, our tent wasn’t going to dry totally by the time we were set to pack up. So we let it dry as much as it could while we were paddling about on the lake, before wiping it over, and then packing up. When we got home that afternoon, we were blessed with some sunshine, and we popped the tent up, and let it dry out in the sun.
It was a wonderful little overnight trip away, and the weather didn’t even put a damper or hinder the pack up and set down. Happy with how our set up is going, we were keen to now set off further afield!
